What do you mean by "affordable"?
- A home or apartment that is affordable to those families earning 80% of Area Median Income ($51,500/year for a family of four) or below.
- 50% of Area Median Income represents a family of four earning $32,188 a year.
Additionally:
- Affordable housing demand far outstrips supply.
- Even rental housing is unaffordable to many working households.
- Rental units much more likely to experience deterioration.
- 25,000 lowest income renters pay over half of their income for housing.
- 11,000 low income homeowners pay over half of their income for housing.
- Home foreclosures have tripled in Columbus and Franklin County over the past seven years.

WHAT'S NEW?
A Milestone
The Housing Trust is pleased to have committed over 17 million dollars to affordable, workforce housing since its start in 2001. That translates into 1772 homes and apartments for 4000 folks in Columbus and Franklin County. We are proud and energized. However, there is much more work to be done.
The Housing Trust Announces New President
The Housing Trust has retained Steven D. Gladman as its President. The Trust Board and Search Committee; Cindy Flaherty, Hal Keller, Chip Santer and Pastor Victor Davis are pleased to announce Steven to lead the Trust.
Steven has extensive management and community experience. In his previous position as the Executive Director for the Columbus Apartment Association, he has been significantly involved in community development issues at the local and state level.
He has served on the Governors Affordable Housing Task Force and was Executive Director for Ohio Energy Action Corporation. Steven is a graduate of The Ohio State University, with an MA in Adult Education, BA Political Science and is ceritified by the Non-Profit Management Institute for Organization Management. He is a member of numerous professional and community organizations.

Many of our partners offer homebuyer counseling. Here's a list:

It's important that a future homeowner attend a certified counseling program. Some programs may qualify you for down payment assistance, and some may not.
